In May 2026, Innovate parents across California continued building power for students and families through advocacy, community engagement, and leadership development. Find out how parents took action to help create stronger, more equitable schools for all students:

In Southeast Los Angeles, parent leaders participated in trainings with Innovate focused on understanding a new  data sheet that illustrates how the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is serving students from diverse backgrounds, using the latest statewide academic proficiency data in English Language Arts and mathematics. These trainings helped equip parents with information and tools to strengthen their advocacy for high-quality schools and student success. [Data Sheet English] [Data Sheet Spanish]

Innovate parent leaders also shared their expertise on a national stage at the PIE Network and Bellwether conference, which focused on elevating parent perspectives on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools. Parent leader Mayra from Redwood City highlighted how Innovate’s AIEP platform is helping families of students with IEPs by improving access to information, communication, and support.

In Los Angeles, Innovate connected with families in the Westlake Pico Union community and participated in a Mother’s Day celebration in the city of Cudahy, where staff and parent leaders invited local families to join the Southeast LA Parent Leadership Team (SELA PLT) and work together to improve schools for all students.
