Peninsula
Taking Action in Redwood City and East Palo Alto
Innovate Public Schools began its work in the Peninsula in 2013. Our mission is to make sure that all children receive a world-class public education, particularly low-income students of color, english learners, and students with learning differences. We have programs in community organizing for parents, training for principals and teachers on how to design and run equitable schools, consulting for districts and schools on family engagement, and research and policy on education issues. We have a base of over 1,000 parents in Redwood City and East Palo.
Parent Leadership Teams
Parent leaders from Redwood City, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park have come together since Innovate started building parent power in the region in 2013. With a belief in a world where every student can have access to an excellent public school, regardless of their background, parents have gained the necessary knowledge to advocate not only for their families but for their communities.

East Palo Alto
In East Palo Alto, are working to improve all Ravenswood schools through the following actions and more: building a coalition of East Palo Alto families, churches, and organizations, training our parents about major issues impacting education such as teacher turnover, and engaging in the Superintendent and School Board’s process of making a strategic plan to improve Ravenswood schools. This Sequoia high school district parent group started meeting in January of 2021 during covid and distance learning, because we wanted to fight for our high school students to have a more equitable education that supports the whole child and parent.
