Innovate Public Schools works with a range of school districts and charter school networks to support the creation of new high-quality schools. For the 2014-2015 school year, we kicked off a new partnership with Rocketship Education to prepare Rocketship’s cohort of rising principals to lead world-class schools for students in the Bay area and across our country. The Rocketship Leadership Design Series includes both start-up principals as well as principals who will move into leadership positions at existing Rocketship schools in the Bay area. The yearlong leadership development series is designed to ensure that these rising leaders foster the mindset, leadership skills, and school design strategies needed to ensure that their schools serve students exceptionally well from day one of the upcoming school year.

Rocketship’s Associate Director, Talent Management recently wrote about partnering with Innovate.

Over the course of the year, Rocketship’s rising leaders will participate in seminars and working sessions related to:

  • Increasing leadership skills, specifically through the lens of transitioning from being a manager of teams to a leader of a full school community
  • Effective organizational design
  • Establishing and maintaining a strong school culture of achievement
  • Developing a clear instructional vision for academic rigor and student support
  • Parent engagement and leadership
  • Best practices for managing and leading teams and using instructional coaching as a lever for excellence

Toward the end of the program, Rocketship rising leaders will present their school design plans to key stakeholders of their school community to receive feedback on their plans and made revisions as necessary. Participants in the program will lead schools in San Jose, Redwood City, Washington, D.C., and Nashville, TN beginning in the 2015-2016 school year.
