Our Bay Area public high schools should prepare all students to go to college and thrive in the 21st Century. But in Sequoia Union High School District, the path to college is still out of reach for too many high school graduates.
In 2016, nearly half of all students graduating from Sequoia were not eligible to attend a UC or CSU school.
Together, Latino, African American, and Asian Pacific Islander students make up a majority of the district’s students. Yet in 2015-16, these students were the least prepared:
To be eligible for a state university, students must take 15 classes (called the A-G requirements) and receive a grade of “C” or higher. This graph shows the percentages of graduates in this district who met these requirements. Learn more.
Living in Silicon Valley gives students a glimpse of the jobs of tomorrow, jobs that will belong only to those who are best-prepared to attend and graduate from college. We believe local students should be able to participate in and lead that future.
