Silicon Valley schools by the numbers
San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Superintendent Vincent Matthews recently released a list of the 10 schools with the biggest achievement gaps. This underscores that the gaps between underserved students and their more privileged peers don’t just show up across the community, but often there are huge gaps within the same school.
The California Department of Education released test scores for the 2016-2017 school year. For most of the state, scores did not improve.
California offers 59% of white and 73% of Asian students with access to good educational opportunities and high student achievement, but the same advantages are only accessible to 2% of African-American and 6% of Hispanic students, according to a new report released by GreatSchools.
California scores below average in Education Week Research Center’s annual Quality Counts report. the state was given a “C-” grade, placing it 42nd among all states in educational performance.
