Parents and caregivers have always been at the heart of movements that transform schools and communities. At Innovate Public Schools, we believe that when families lead, real change follows. That’s why we’re proud to announce the return of the Jose Arenas Parent Leadership Institute (PLI)! This powerful, two-day training is designed to give parents and caregivers the tools to organize, build movements, and create lasting impact.
The PLI is no ordinary workshop. It’s an immersive, hands-on training rooted in the Institution-Based Community Organizing model. Over two days from September 20-21, 2025, participants will:
- Learn how to build strong grassroots movements
- Understand and navigate power dynamics in education and policy
- Gain skills to uplift the voices of marginalized communities
- Practice the four cycles of organizing: listening, research, action, and evaluation
- Participants leave with tangible skills, a stronger network, and the confidence to step into leadership roles that influence schools, districts, and beyond
This year, we are excited to share exclusive discounts for our Innovate alumni:
- COTP alumni: 15% off PLI registration with code cotp2025alum
- Referrals: Alumni can share pli2025referral with friends for 15% off either program
- Cross-discount: Former PLI attendees now receive 15% off when registering for COTP 2026 using code cotpall

Alumni Impact: From Training to Transformation
Graduates of the Parent Leadership Institute have gone on to lead education organizations, shift district policies, and fight for equity in their communities.
“PLI was a transformative experience, one of the most impactful professional development opportunities that I have had in my career.”
– Sara Walke, Principal, Livermore Adult Education
Decades of research shows that when parents engage in their child’s education, children have better academic outcomes including higher grades, better attendance, and a greater likelihood to graduate from high school and enroll in college.
At Innovate Public Schools, we believe that parents and caregivers are the most powerful advocates for students. When families are equipped with organizing skills, knowledge, and a strong network, they can transform schools, shift systems, and ensure every child has access to an excellent education.
Seats for the September 2025 PLI session are limited. Don’t wait to secure your spot!
