Bio

Jose is a community organizer in Redwood City with a passion for educational and social justice. Born in Nicaragua and raised in Costa Rica, Jose began working with youth from different socio-economic backgrounds through local organizations in his community.

Since moving to the Bay Area in 2016, Jose has enjoyed forming relationships with Bay Area families to promote their wellness and educational development. Jose completed a two-year fellowship at Bayshore Christian Ministries in East Palo Alto, mentoring youth and creating opportunities for them to develop their academic gifts. He also worked at the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford helping families to connect with resources during times of crisis.

Most recently, Jose co-founded the EPA Dream Center in the O’Keefe community of East Palo Alto. He serves as a board member and volunteer mentor, participating in their after-school tutoring program.

As a community organizer, Jose hopes to empower families to be change-agents in their own communities and develop their leadership to support them as advocates for better schooling and educational opportunities throughout the Bay Area.
