March 2017 Brief

San Jose Unified Snapshot: Students with Disabilities

Innovate Public Schools prepared this brief on Special Education in San Jose for our parent leader group in San Jose. We are a group of parents — most of whom have children with special needs — who have come together to learn more about system-level issues in special education and take action to bring about better schools for our children. If you are interested in getting involved or want to learn more, please contact Alicia Ross.

This brief will be followed by a report looking at special education
across the entire Bay Area later this year.

About Innovate Public Schools
Innovate Public Schools is a nonprofit organization working to make sure that all students in the Bay Area — especially low-income students and students of color — receive a world-class public education that prepares them for success in college, careers and beyond. We’re building a movement of families, educators, and business and elected leaders who together will make this vision a reality. We build the capacity of parents and educators to innovate and act together to create world-class public schools, and we publish easy-to-understand school quality data and research that highlights both problems and solutions.
