Black Teenager Tutoring Latino Teenager

Thanks to the persistence of parents and creative partnership, starting in January, 150 low-income students in San Francisco will be receiving algebra tutoring from the highest rated private tutoring service in San Francisco, Alexander Tutoring.

The journey

Since summer 2020, Innovate parent leaders have been organizing to expand tutoring. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, most low-income students weren’t getting the high-quality education and support they needed. The pandemic and school closures have only exacerbated those inequities. As parents looked for solutions, it was clear that tutoring is one of the most powerful and practical ways to accelerate learning for students.

This grew into a big vision: free high-quality tutoring for all San Francisco students who need it.

Innovate parent leaders saw that pilot programs could be a powerful way to get help to students fast, prove what’s possible and inspire and inform bigger, publicly-funded initiatives. When they connected with Alexander Tutoring, it was clear they shared our commitment to this vision and could deliver quality tutoring for families.

We still need your support

Thanks to the generous support of private donors, we are officially able to start enrolling families for this one-year pilot program for 150 low-income 8th, 9th and 10th-grade students. But, we still need more support. We are working to raise the last $75K needed to provide a full year of tutoring to all students. That’s where you come in. To help support this project, head to this donate page and select “San Francisco Tutoring Corps” from the drop-down menu.
