Pedro L. Carreño joins Innovate Public Schools as the Sr. Program Manager of World-Class Schools. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, he immigrated to the United States with his parents at a young age. Pedro began his career in education as a Teach for America corps member in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn at Excellence Boys Charter School where he taught K-8.
Prior to joining Innovate, Pedro served as a school administrator at schools in Red Hook, Brooklyn and East Harlem, NY. In 2015, he completed the National Principals Academy Fellowship with the Relay Graduate School of Education, alongside 200 other school and district leaders from around the country.
Pedro recently spent time living in Guatemala, Brazil, and South Africa and working with local education-focused non-profits. Pedro proudly serves on the board of directors of the South African Education & Environment Project (SAEP-USA), aimed at supporting efforts to improve education, life skills, and psycho-social support programs for children, youth, and education providers.
A native of New York, he holds a B.A. in Latin American Studies with a Minor in Social Entrepreneurship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education.
