Senior Program Manager, Leadership Development
Sarah Z.L. Tucker is the Senior Manager of Leadership Development at Innovate Public Schools. In this role, Sarah co-leads the Start-Up Schools Fellowship sessions, serves as a leadership coach to many rising school leaders, and consults current and future leaders through the process of high quality school design and turnaround. Sarah has a history of marked results with school turnaround and start-up efforts, especially for low-income students and students of color. She was the founding Dean of Students at UP Academy Boston, a highly successful turnaround school committed to improving educational outcomes for all students. Sarah led the organization’s efforts to establish a strong school culture, centered on the principles of rigor and joy. In the school’s founding year, students at UP had the highest student growth percentiles in middle school math in the entire state of Massachusetts and, in 2014, was named a Commendation School by the Massachusetts Department of Education, an accolade reserved for schools that are beating the odds with students. Most recently, Sarah served as the Dean of Culture at Amistad High School, in New Haven, Ct. Ranked one of the best high schools in the state of Connecticut, 100% of Amistad High School graduates are accepted to a 4-year college or university. Sarah began her career in education as a Teach for America corps member in Atlanta, GA. She is a very proud graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She also earned a Master’s degree in Education Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
