As our education writer, Amanda Machado is responsible for writing compelling content that advances Innovate’s mission. She joined Innovate Public Schools to help empower parents with the resources they need to fight for their children’s educational rights.
Amanda first became interested in educational justice during an internship with Breakthrough Collaborative the summer after her freshman year in college. That led her to join Teach for America after graduating college and teach 9th grade English in the Bay area.
Afterwards, she built a career as a travel and education writer while living temporarily in cities like Cape Town, Havana, and Berlin. She’s written for online publications like The Atlantic, Vox, Quartz and others, and has worked as an editor for Matador Network, the world’s largest independent travel magazine. She’s also facilitated international education workshops with organizations like Global Glimpse and Soliya.
Amanda has a degree in English Literature and Nonfiction Writing from Brown University.
